We run regular monthly litterpicks via the Flackwell Heath Wombles (for more information click here).
The Wombles also arrange the Village Litter Picks which are run twice a year to involve as many people as possible from the community to cover the whole village. They are free to join, open to everyone with no commitment on time. Just turn up on the day – the Wombles will provide litter pickers and bags to collect rubbish and will dispose of the litter returned to them.
The events typically run for up to 3hrs for anyone to attend at any time during the event – you can collect litter from wherever you want for as long as you want. The litter picking collection station will be in Jubilee Gardens between 10am to 1pm on a Saturday. The Wombles also run a litter-picking station in collaboration with Flackwell Heath Minors in the Flackwell Minors Football Ground from 10.30am to 12.30pm at the Green Dragon Lane football ground.
Dates for these Village Litter Picks will be announced on our News and Events page on our web site, on our Facebook page, emailed to FHRA members and keep a look out for our signs outside the Community Centre. They will be scheduled in the Spring and late Autumn. If you would like to get involved with volunteering or help organize these events please get in touch with us at hello@fhra.co.uk.
The next event is on Saturday 1 April from 10am – 12pm.
Please bring your own gloves to litter picks if you need them. Litter Pickers avoid the need to touch the litter so gloves should not be required.
Hopefully you will find it fun! Some people combine litter picking with their dog walk and bring friends or family. It’s particularly great to see children understand the impact littering has and how rewarding it is to have a direct impact on helping the environment. We hope that these events encourage litter not to be dropped in the first place.
